For our winter issue, Twist Collective asked our contributors where they look for colour while the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun. Click on their images below for their answers, and for links to their individual websites.

Rosemary Hill

I live in the wine country of Northern California, so the colors here are not the traditional muted winter hues of grey, white, and dark green. The sky is often grey, it's true, but the browns and golds of summer and autumn turn into verdant greens on the hills and between the rows of dormant grape vines: grasses coming to life with the rain after a long hot summer. Towards the holidays, I find myself yearning for snow and searching for the rare and beautiful white streaks in the mountains around our little valley.
