Twist Style Friday: Carrick

Every Friday we feature one of the garments from the magazine in a post about styling. We suggest different ways to wear the garment in question using mock-ups from Polyvore. We encourage readers to tell us what they think about these outfits via our Facebook page or Twitter, and if folks want to make their own outfits, please tweet them at us with the hashtag #twiststyle. Happy Friday friends!

It's finally October, the most wonderful time of the year. Warm days and cool evenings are helping me sleep and encouraging me to knit sweaters and make soups and I really just think this time of the year is perfection.  I'm making myself a super plain pullover right now, that I think I will were every day this winter, but I also want to make some really luscious textured sweaters. Have you taken a close look at Carrick

This color reminds me of my first pair of Doc Martens, which were a kind of blackened cherry. This piece would be stunning in just about any shade, but this one has so much lovely depth. I would advise keeping the tone rich and deep with just a hint of variation. This bouncy, round yarn is perfect for this high relief cable pattern, and comes in a whole lot of gorgeous tonal colorways.

Also this thing happens in October where suddenly pumpkins and decorative gourds and vaguely spooky things are everywhere and I love it. Halloween isn't really my thing, but I get a little deep witch sometimes. Carrick can get a little witchy too; check it out. I love me a little aggressive femininity, and I think Carrick is a bold enough babe to carry off just about any big look. I suggest serious textures and powerful shoes.

Throwback Thursday: Sorrel

Imagine these pretty cuffs poking out of the tops of your favourite fall boots?

I like the subtly patterned heel and the roundness of the cable motifs. Sorrel, you so have my number.

I also like how the cable goes all the way to the end of the toe. It's a little detail, but it's just perfect.

Fashion friends, it's really here: sweater weather.  I've been wearing my handknits, and also feeling real inspired to cast on about a million more projects. I made a headband and a set of wristwarmers this week, and started a pair of bubblegum pink socks and a fingering weight pullover in tweedy green.

I haven't picked my project from our newest issue yet, but this one is definitely in the running.

Cozy, an easy shape, and POCKETS!! I love the textured stripes down the sleeves, and the luscious cables.

pockets!

I love the squishy texture of this piece. In a squishy merino like this one, it won't droop at the end of a day. I'm partial to the burgundy and olive shades, but there are a ton of lovely colors to choose from.

Boots and skinny pants are an excellent way to wear this delightful pullover, but I think there are some other ways too, in addition to some variations on that theme. Quirky shoes with a masculine edge make the slightly slouchy look of the sweater still seem a little bit sharp.

Throwback Thursday: Pergola

Gotta love a simple sock with a graphic design.  Remember Pergola

I love how the lace pattern comes to a point at the toe, and also runs down the heel.

The zigzaggy leg portion is also super cute.

Knit yourself a pair of Pergola socks!

I got home last night from dinner and my roombabe announced that today was "the last hot day." He said is a little wistfully, but you know my seasonal proclivities, fashion friends. Fall has arrived, and it is a real delight. My queue is piling up with sweaters in preparation, and this one is definitely on my list.

I love a wide neckline and split hem. The lace patterning is super pretty, and knit in a DK weight, it's a decently speedy knit! This one is made of soft, fluffy camel.

Whenever the seasons change I feel like I have to relearn how to dress myself. Additionally, I just spent a couple of weeks living off a carry-on sized capsule collection of my wardrobe, so now that I'm home, I'm kind of overwhelmed by all the clothes I have to choose from! Maybe that's why this week my styling is kind of all about variations on a theme. Go forth. Knit Sinua. Be adorable.
