Needles & Notions:
Hat:
Size 5 US / 3.75 mm:
• circular needle, 16" / 40 cm long
• set of four or five double-pointed needles

Mittens:
Size 2 US / 2.75 mm:
• set of four or five double pointed needles, or circular needle 40" / 100 cm long for Magic Loop
• 2 circular needles, any length Size 1 US / 2.25 mm circular needle, any length (optional)

Tapestry needle, cable needle, smooth waste yarn in a contrasting color, stitch markers

Gauge: Hat: 16 sts and 30 rows = 4" / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch, using size 5 US / 3.75 mm needles
Mittens: 24 sts and 36 rows = 4" / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch, using size 2 US / 2.75 mm needles

Construction Notes: If you have a particularly small head, work the cabled ribbing of the hat using needles one size smaller than you use to get gauge. This will produce a smaller, firmer ribbing and a better fit.
